Ingredients
- 3 medium-sized Granny Smith Apples
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- ⅓ cup caramel vodka
- ⅓ cup apple brandy
- ⅓ cup caramel sauce
- 2 packages of unflavored gelatin
- 1 cup mulled apple cider (or apple juice)
- ½ cup chopped peanuts for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Cut the apples in half lengthwise. Using a melon baller or sharp spoon, carefully remove the inside of the fruit, leaving a ¼” wall attached to the skin of the apple.
- Brush or dunk each apple half with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Place the apple halves into a muffin tin, ensuring they are even and won’t tip. Set aside.
- Combine ⅓ cup caramel vodka and ⅓ cup apple brandy in a large measuring cup. Sprinkle 2 packages of unflavored gelatin evenly over the surface. Let stand without stirring for 5 minutes so the gelatin can absorb the liquid and soften (this is called “blooming”).
- While the gelatin blooms, warm the caramel sauce in the microwave until melted.
- Warm the mulled apple cider in a microwave-safe cup or on the stove.
- Pour the hot caramel sauce and apple cider over the bloomed gelatin and stir until the gelatin is dissolved, for about two or three minutes.
- Pour the Jell-O mixture through a mesh sieve to filter any undissolved lumps and into the apple. Refrigerate the caramel apple Jell-O shots for at least 4 hours, or overnight. To serve, slice the apples into wedges. Sprinkle with chopped peanuts.
Enjoy responsibly.
